These are the perfect kits for encoding activities to build phonemic discernment and confidence in alphabetic principle. Kids quickly learn to crack the English code.

The lined back side is great space for dictation practice  as the teacher says a word and the students attempt to spell it.

This is also a perfect spot for kids to respond to prompts like, “Write all the ways you can think of to spell the /f/ sound.” Many kids will soon be able to write, not only “f”, but “ff”, “ph” and “gh” too!

Early in the year, the handwriting lines provide excellent scaffolding of letter formation. Getting the kids to write the lowercase alphabet as quickly AND as neatly as possible within a minute is a great way to see who has fluent handwriting skills and who needs more practice.

By the end of 2nd grade, most students should be able to write 40 legible letters within 60 seconds.
